Why use old graphics at your next exhibition when new exhibition graphics fitted to your old stand will look so much better and will also save you money on buying a completely new system.

Exhibiting on an extremely tight budget

I have been in the print industry now for over 25 years and spent the past 21 years specialising in large format print for exhibitions.

In this time the costs of producing large format graphics for exhibitions has dramatically dropped due to changes in technology and print methods, but this doesn't stop the need for even cheaper prices and cost savings.

I am often called by people that have purchased a second hand exhibition stand who are looking for advice on purchasing new graphics to fit to an old frame or stand structure. This can in some cases work out really well if you are lucky enough to have purchased a stand that has been well looked after. The other option is to buy from new.

If buying from new you will need to consider - build quality of hardware, printing quality of graphics, easy of use and of course customer service and attention to detail from your supplier.

3x3 Exhibition Stands still proving as popular as ever !

For many years now 3x3 pop up stands have been one of the most popular exhibition stands used by exhibitors all over the UK and worldwide.

This doesn't appear to be changing, and at RGL Displays we continue to sell more of these types of exhibition stand than anything else we offer.

What size exhibition stand should you buy ?

We often get asked the question; What size exhibition stand will fit within my allocated exhibition floor area ?

To help remove some of the confusion as to how much floor space the most popular pop up stands take up we have added a webpage to help with this, which can be found here.

The most common mistake made by people looking to order a pop up stand is of assuming a 3x3 pop up stand is 3 metres wide by 3 metres high. This is not the case, as the 3x3 instead refers to the number of frame sections within the collapsible frame structure. Thus a 3x3 has 3 frame sections wide and 3 frame sections high.

Just to confuse people even further, some manufacturers refer to a 3x4 as 3 frame sections high by 4 frame sections wide (most common) and others refer to this as 3 frame sections wide by 4 frame sections high !
The same goes for other sizes of pop up stands like 3x2, 3x5 and 3x6.

Environmentally friendly wide format printing

With the ever growing demand for environmentally friendly printing. RGL have recently taken delivery of another environmentally friendly printing machine that prints using the very latest Latex technology.

This wide format printer prints without any harmful solvents which is not only great for the world that we live in but also the health of the operators.


Far too often wide format printing machines are not adequately ventilated when solvent printing is being used which is why we prefer to use water based inks that give off no harmful vapors.

In the past the result of not using solvent inks for outdoor work had its restrictions as to both the range of substrates and also the quality of printing.

This is no longer an issue as our Latex printer has a wide range of media to choose from including banner 
PVC, self adhesive vinyl's, textiles, papers and wallpapers.

For custom wallpapers the HP PVC-free Wall Paper printed with HP Latex Inks is GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certified® and meets AgBB criteria for health-related evaluation of VOC emissions of indoor building products.
Likewise both 
outdoor banners and indoor PVC banners can be printed to very high standards without the smell of solvent and also be fire rated to meet health and safety standards.

How much should I spend for my pop up banners ?

Before trying to answer this question I would like to take you back 15 years ago to 1999.
Around this time pop up banners were sold through a handful of dealers across the UK and were commonly called 'roller banners'. The base units on these banners were made to last and worked well but would cost on average £300 for a regular 800mm wide banner !

This sounds like a lot now but back then there were only a few companies selling these items on the internet and printing machines were slow and expensive to run, meaning that if you wanted to order these for an exhibition you had to be prepared to spend quite a bit to buy them.

Since this time, the competition for selling these banners has increased dramatically and this has both reduced the cost of these exhibition stands and at the same time reduced the quality of many that I have seen. What looks great on a website may not be as good in the flesh, and with prices falling to silly levels I'm afraid in many cases you will get what you pay for !

The first question you should ask yourself before buying these banners is, 'Do I want my banners to look great and be easy for me  to use' ? In most cases the answer to this would be yes, although I have to question this with some of the banners that I have seen.

Next I would ask myself, 'Am I going to use these often or for just one event' ? If ordering for just one event you could save some money by ordering something a little bit more budget £45 - £55, but it may be better to spend £10 more and get something that looks better when up, £65 will get you a good budget banner.

If your company has a slightly larger budget and wants the banners to last longer or maybe have the ability to replace or change the graphics at a later date then it would be worth spending between £79 - £170 depending on the look and make of the banner. Some makes come with a lifetime guarantee against component failure which is always nice to have, while the cheaper ones do not.

I would recommend spending at least £55 for a easy to use good quality pop up banner and checking to make sure that it comes with a high quality printed graphic with a laminate to protect the image face.

I would not recommend ones with pvc graphics unless being used in very large bases or outdoors.If you are unsure about what banners to buy please drop me an email with your questions and I will be happy to help you decide.

Environmentally friendly printing ?

In a world where printed media is all around us it is sometimes hard to see how you can help reduce your carbon footprint whilst still operating your business successfully.

Most companies will try and make you believe they are environmentally friendly whilst in reality this is not always the case. The vast majority of the worlds companies have been struggling to survive over the past seven years so helping the environment has far too often become less important.

At RGL Displays we do everything we can to help with these environmental issues while not compromising on quality of product or service.

One of the most recent changes we have made is to purchase a latex wide format printer which enables us to print the vast majority of out outdoor signage using environmentally friendly water based inks which have been GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certified® and meet AgBB criteria3. This printer uses inks which contain no Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) according to EPA Method 311.

Printing with environmentally friendly inks helps but there are other things that can be done to help further, like re-using old display stands and having new graphics printed instead of ordering completely new stands every time. This helps by using far less raw materials like Aluminium.

At RGL we print replacement graphics for most exhibition stands including pop up stands and roller banners. In fact many of our biggest clients save there old banner stands and return to us to use on their following campaigns.

Another simple way to help the environment is to get it right first time ! What we mean by this is printing with less waste and less mistakes. Our staff are highly trained and take a pride in their work and very rarely have to reprint due to errors. Also all of our clients work is digitally proofed first before printing to avoid reprints due to design errors.
